Veronica “Ronnie” Ingels, Brooklyn gal PI, waited a long time for the solitaire on her finger. When her sometimes boss, a shadowy figure and director of a secret government organization, offers a one-week bridal shopping vacay in Maryland she jumps at it.

Joined by bridesmaids, Sandra Daube and Bertha Dagney, Ronnie sets off for the village of Heritage Cove on Arrowhead Lake, Maryland. Their joyous stay at the rustic yet luxury Heritage Cove Inn is shattered by a murder with tendrils and a clandestine motive stretching back to the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

It doesn’t take long for Ronnie and her gal-pals to become targets of the killer. It goes without saying, Taylor County Deputy Sheriff, Lieutenant Dawson Hughes leaves Texas to protect his bride-to-be. He’s joined by Sandra’s employer, conservative political activist Ben Cohen. No obstacle can keep Gabby Hayes look-alike Hoot Dagney from the side of Bertha his new bride.

Chillemi’s Deadly Designs is one of the best crime fiction novels for today’s world, October 14, 2016

By  C. Brown

This review is from: Deadly Designs: The Veronica “Ronnie” Ingels/Dawson Hughes Trilogy, Book Two (Authorized Operations) (Kindle Edition)

Chillemi’s Deadly Designs is one of the best crime fiction novels for today’s world. Filled with tension and fast-paced action, the book also brings out the romance between the protagonists and both the suspense and romance are handled as an experienced, great writing author should do–realistically and attention-grabbing.

Ronnie Ingels teams up with Lt Dawson Hughes to find the missing wife and daughter of nerdy radio DJ Harper, even though reported far later than they should have been. Fear for the missing mother and daughter is building when the double protagonists go from questioning the elite society of Connecticut and grouchy local police detectives to an underworld of fashion and terrorism.

One impressive ability that shines from Chillemi’s writing, is her ability to infuse faith and inspirational moments within her plots that are realistic and encouraging to readers, and far from overwhelming.

The question is: did the model/mother take off on one of her usual pot-smoking experiences with a shady “friend,” or did the international terrorists kidnap the two as pay back for the DJ’s pro-Israel, conspiracy theory he spouted on a regular broadcast? Is the husband at fault? And can Ronnie and Dawson rescue the family before it’s too late?

Time is ticking…and everyone knows time is a factor in finding a live child. Recommended highly!

Find Over-50 Romance in a Whodunit ~ pre-Christmas sale

Bertha and Hoot Dagney are perhaps the most beloved characters in my detective series, other than main characters private investigator Veronica “Ronnie” Ingels and deputy Dawson Hughes.

Bertha  brings to mind the old classic war movie saying Big Bertha. She’s a head taller than Hoot and outweighs him by half. When we meet Hoot in the tiny village of Arroyo in west Texas, he’s sporting a beat-up prospector’s hat and has a beard reminiscent of Gabby Hayes. They’re an odd couple for sure. Hoot owns a diner and Bertha is his head waitress and chief pie baker. Bertha is one of those Christian women who is genuinely kind, from the heart. And Hoot is protective of her.

So, what’s award winning HARMFUL INTENT all about?

Sweet, askance romance, warm intimacy, sophisticated themes presented tastefully. (Ages 17 to 117)

Betrayal runs in private investigator Veronica “Ronnie” Ingels’ family. So, why is she surprised when her husband of one year cheats on her? The real shock is his murder, with the local lawman pegging her as the prime suspect.

Ronnie is a sharp shooting, Brooklyn born and raised private investigator who travels to west Texas, where her cheating husband is murdered. As she hunts the killer to clear her name, she becomes the hunted.

Deputy Sergeant Dawson Hughes, a former Army Ranger, is a man folks want on their side. Only he’s not so sure at first, he’s on the meddling New York PI’s side. As the evidence points away from her, he realizes the more she butts in, the more danger she attracts to herself.

DEADLY DESIGNS ~ back to school promotion, 99 cents

dd-meme-3

The kids are back in school, so kick back and enjoy a taut, suspenseful detective novel ~ Friday, September 9th – Sunday, September 11th only 99 cents.

DEADLY DESIGNS: Fast paced whodunit, with dry humor. Sweet, romance, warm intimacy, sophisticated themes presented tastefully.  Private investigator Veronica “Ronnie” Ingels teams up with Deputy Dawson Hughes to find a geeky radio broadcaster’s missing wife and young daughter. They fear the woman and child were taken by Islamic terrorists as revenge against the husband’s pro-Israel, conspiracy theory broadcasts. The investigation takes Ronnie and Hughes from a manicured Connecticut estate, to interviews with an elitist A-List society crowd, and run-ins with cranky local police detectives. Then they plunge deep into the seamy, drug-riddled underbelly of the fashion world, with the specter of international terrorism hovering.

Hughes has recently been promoted to lieutenant in the Taylor County, Texas Sheriff’s Department. He’s on leave on a special assignment with Authorized Operations (AO), a clandestine, quasi-government agency operating out of a sea-side mansion in Hither Hills, NY. The only thing is, many powerful politicians, and government big-wigs claim Authorized Operations doesn’t exist.

Ronnie is furious at both Hughes and the broadcaster for waiting thirty-six hours to start the search. She knows the longer it takes, the less chance there is of finding the child alive. The problem is, radio talk-show host Ed Harper has been hoping-against-hope that his pot-smoking, model wife is on one of her ‘esoteric experiences’ and has simply taken the child while she romps for a few days. He doesn’t want to seriously consider the other, more hazardous possibility… that his radio broadcasts have angered some very dangerous people.

 ENDORSEMENTS:

While I thoroughly enjoyed, HARMFUL INTENT, I found DEADLY DESIGN’s captivating plot and familiar characters fascinating. It’s so refreshing to read a good suspense novel without all the darkness but that is still exciting. Amid the turmoil, Ronnie and Dawson ease into a romance that is fresh and utterly real. I highly recommend DEADLY DESIGN. It’s a stellar read. ~~ V. B. Tenery, author of WORKS OF DARKNESS, book one in the Matt Foley/Sara Bradford series.

…as Hughes and Ronnie come under threats to their lives, the author constructs a narrative of increasing tension that builds to an exciting climax and satisfying denouement. The author also presents a meticulously researched variety of technical equipment. The result is an excellent suspense novel that readers will find most entertaining. ~~ Don Taylor, author of LIGHTNING ON A QUIET NIGHT, THE LAZARUS FILE, and more.

In DEADLY DESIGNS, Dawson Hughes brings his Texas charm to the Tri-State area to work with Ronnie on an abduction case. This gritty, suspense-filled story will keep the reader on edge all the way up until the satisfying end. I especially enjoyed the blossoming affection between the two detectives. Highly recommended! ~~ Betty Thomason Owens, author of ANNABELLE’S RUTH, Book 1 in the Kinsman Redeemer series.

Who’d a thunk it? Nike Chillemi’s New York gusto in Texas. HARMFUL INTENT is a mystery/suspense delight, mixing Nike’s New York flavor, the quirkiness of the South, a mystery to die for, and laugh aloud humor. I couldn’t put it down. ~ Fay Lamb, author of STALKING WILLOW and BETTER THAN REVENGE.

Nike Chillemi delivers another gritty ‘who dun it’ in her signature no nonsense style, with just the right amount of humor to lighten it up on occasion while keeping it real.  Tracy Krauss – award winning and bestselling author of numerous novels including WIND OVER MARSHDALE

Echoing the best pulp fiction of generations past, Chillemi’s new contemporary series will please readers of romantic suspense. One Night In Tehran by Luana Ehrlich ~ a review

One Night In Tehran

I read ONE NIGHT IN TEHRAN by Luana Ehrlich as a judge in the Grace Awards. Right in the first pages, its authenticity  floored me and made me want to keep reading.  The author has such a vast knowledge of CIA protocols, one wonders if she’s had some type of connection to that highly secretive world.

The story begins in Tehran. Titus Ray, an undercover American CIA agent is being hunted by Iranian authorities, but manages to escape the country. Back in the states, he learns he’s been targeted by an Iranian assassin. The CIA gives him a new cover story (a legend) and ships him to Oklahoma for his own safety. The rest of the story plays out on American soil and is a skillful combination of detective novel and spy story.

This book was a finalist in the Action-Adventure/Thriller/Western/Epic Novel category of the Grace Awards 2014 because it’s main character, CIA agent Titus Ray, was deeply affected by the Christian family who gave him shelter while he hid in Tehran. Thus he began a personal, spiritual search and converted to Christianity. The faith element of the novel doesn’t at all intrude on the action-adventure, spy story. It simply gives the main character depth.

The novel is well written, exciting, actually. It kept me fully engaged. My only criticism is that it seems to end abruptly with a major string untied. This is deliberate on the part of the author, a literary choice she made. I recommend this novel and will indeed be reading the sequel.
